What does a printer cap top do?

A cap top seals and protects the printhead when the printer is not in use. By keeping the nozzle plate covered, it helps prevent ink from drying in the nozzles, which is why a failing or badly seated cap top often shows up first as clogging or unstable print quality after the machine has been idle.
