Ricoh G5 Printhead: Deep Analysis

The Ricoh gen5 print head is a printhead specially designed for industrial printing applications. It has been on the market for a long time and is currently the most widely accepted by customers.

The printhead is not only a core component of the entire printing equipment but also a consumable item. The quality of the printhead and the printing effect determine whether the production company can successfully receive orders and deliver them on time. The price of the printhead also accounts for a very large proportion of the price of the printer. Improper daily use and maintenance will also directly affect its service life, increasing production costs. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a good and durable printhead.

Ricoh Gen5 Print Head Characteristics

Grayscale Piezoelectric Printhead

The Ricoh G5 is a grayscale piezoelectric printhead with 1280 nozzles and can produce variable ink droplets, with a minimum ink droplet of 7 pl and a maximum of 35 pl. The physical resolution of the nozzle is 600 dpi, which is suitable for high-precision printing. The maximum ignition frequency of the G5 is 30 kHz. Even the ignition frequency of multi-point printing can be maintained above 20 kHz, unlike some printheads, which will drop by more than 50%. In addition, the positioning of the trolley uses a fixed linear grating to ensure high-precision printing positioning. The lightweight platform makes plate transfer easier, positioning more precise, and repeated printing without deviation possible.

All Steel Material

The Ricoh Gen5 print head is not easy to corrode or clog. It uses a piston cleaning method during automatic cleaning, which is not easy to cause damage to the printhead. The printhead and the data cable are integrated, and the contact between the two is stable, so there will be no problem with loose cables. The printing can be divided into single and double-row inkjet, the ink control is very good, and single and double-row can also be variable for fast and slow printing.

Save ink up to 30%~50%

Since the grayscale printhead uses variable dot technology, the four-color printing effect is the same as the six-color printing effect without the grayscale printhead. The reason is that when printing without a grayscale printhead, dark colors will be printed in dark areas such as CMYK, where the color is light, use light color printing such as LmLc, but no matter whether it is printing dark or light color, the ink droplet size of the printhead is the same, but the Ricoh printhead uses grayscale printing, in the place where the color is very dark, it will use 21pl to print, use 14pl to print in lighter colors, and use 7pl to print in very light colors. In other words, grayscale printing technology adapts to changes in the color depth of the image by adjusting the size of the ink droplets. This reduces ink usage. Ordinary printing adapts to changes in image color depth by adding light-colored ink, and the amount of ink used will be larger.

Jump White Printing in X and Y Directions

Ricoh Gen5 printheads can automatically identify blank areas and quickly skip them. It supports multiple copy printing and area printing, which is convenient for batch printing of small pictures and sampling printing of large pictures. It supports recovery printing, mirror printing, the dual zero positioning function (double starting point printing), reverse printing, and alternating forward and reverse printing, which further improves production efficiency and does not waste any useful materials.

Humanized Design

Automatic media thickness measurement and an automatic height control system can automatically adapt to media of different thicknesses to avoid damage caused by human error. It has an automatic white-out printing function that significantly improves production efficiency. It can automatically identify and avoid blank parts of the screen. It can set the irradiation power of two UV lamps. It automatically rotates according to the round-trip direction during bidirectional printing, which can effectively reduce the depth of darkness. Pass channel, powerful nozzle compensation function: you can replace the faulty nozzle with a normal nozzle for inkjet printing, ensuring that the screen will not appear white or pass channel. The optional software template printing technology makes the splicing error less than 0.5mm. The optional assembly line printing mode is suitable for the industrial online generation. The trolley media anti-collision device can automatically stop when it encounters the media to protect the trolley and printhead.

Wide range of Applications

Because the Ricoh G5 printhead can print directly on various materials, it can partially replace the application of traditional silk screen printing and obtain richer colors and higher efficiency than silk screen printing. Therefore, it can break through traditional processes and achieve rapid progress in the field of personalized product processing, such as: glass, acrylic, wood board, ceramic tile, metal plate, PVC board, corrugated board, plastic, etc.

How to Identify the Specific Models of Ricoh Gen5 Printhead?

In daily work, we always encounter a problem, that is, when many people purchase printheads, they do not know which models of Ricoh G5 printheads are used in their equipment. Today I will introduce to you how to distinguish the specifications and models of the Ricoh Gen5 print head you use, avoiding making the wrong purchase.
First of all, let’s take a look at the Ricoh G5 printhead. The Ricoh G5 is produced by RICOH Company of Japan. It is an industrial inkjet printhead that can be used for high-precision printing. It uses advanced inkjet printing equipment manufacturing technology and has a printing width of 54.1 mm (2.1 inches), the entire print head has 1,280 (4 × 320 channels) nozzles, the nozzle spacing is 0.55 mm, the ink drop size is controllable from 7-35PL, and it is compatible with UV, solvent, water-based inks, etc. It has superior performance. It is stable and reliable, can perform high-intensity printing, and is cost-effective. Many equipment manufacturers have developed numerous printing equipment based on it. It is currently the most widely used printhead for inkjet printing.

Currently, there are many models of Ricoh GEN5, including:

With so many models and specifications, how do we identify them?

Ricoh printhead identification
The identification is also very simple. You can directly identify it through the part number P\N code of Ricoh G5. In the packaging box or wiring line of each Ricoh Gen5 print head, there will be a sticky note, with the P\N code code and S\N code, through the P\N code of the printhead, you can find the corresponding model of the printhead. The S\N code serial number is actually equivalent to the printhead’s ID. Each has its unique serial number which is also the basis for traceability of the printhead. Through the part number, we can also determine the cable length and the difference between oil-based heads and water-based heads. Usually, the P\N code starting with N is an oil-based head, and the one starting with J is a water-based head. The oil-based head P/N code ending with L is the long line, the cable length is 500MM, the one ending with J is the short line, the cable length is 248MM, the water-based head P\N code ending with 4 is the long line, and the one ending with the 2 is the short line.
