Kyocera Printhead: KJ4A Series and KJ4B Series

The Kyocera printhead is widely used in outdoor advertising, commercial printing, on-demand printing, textiles, ceramics/building materials, label/packaging printing, 3D printing, and many other fields. Kyocera is also increasing and accelerating its layout in the Chinese industrial printing market. Kyocera has obvious advantages in industrial-grade print heads. In addition, Kyocera has made great efforts to expand in the Chinese market in the past two years, and the share of Kyocera printheads has risen sharply.

Structure and Working Principle of Kyocera Printhead

Kyocera printheads are usually composed of nozzles, ink cartridges, and printing circuits. The nozzle is the most critical part, usually composed of a micro-orifice array, each of which is connected to the ink cartridge to control the flow of ink. The printing circuit is responsible for sending electrical signals to the nozzle to control the position and speed of ink ejection.

Kyocera Printhead Working Principle

The working principle of the Kyocera printhead is realized by the effect of ink flash evaporation under the action of voltage. When voltage is applied to the ink near the nozzle, the ink will quickly heat up and turn into steam, and then be ejected from the nozzle at a very high speed to form ink droplets. The printing circuit will accurately control the voltage of each nozzle to eject ink at the right position and time to form the required pattern or text.

The working principle of Kyocera printhead mainly has two key technologies, namely thermal pulse technology and dynamic adjustment technology. Thermal pulse technology controls the application time and intensity of voltage to make the ink around the nozzle quickly heat up and form steam, ensuring that the ink is ejected at the right speed. Dynamic adjustment technology adjusts the voltage of different nozzles in real-time according to printing requirements to ensure uniform ink ejection and clear printing effect.

In summary, the Kyocera printhead achieves precise ink ejection by controlling voltage and the flash evaporation effect of ink, thereby completing high-quality printing tasks.

Technical Analysis of Kyocera KJ4 Series

1. 108mm effective printing range

The wide-format structure of 108mm enables wide-format printing with a small number of print heads. The cumbersome position adjustment is greatly saved, and the piping and wiring design also become easier.

2. Single-pass printing is achieved with a maximum line speed of 100m/min

In the effective printing range of 108mm, 2656 nozzles are configured at intervals of 0.042mm, each nozzle has 40,000 drops per second. The overall printing speed exceeds 100 million drops per second. This realizes single-pass printing with a resolution of 600dpi×600dpi and a maximum line speed of 100m/min. The driving frequency is 40KHz.

What did Kyocera do to achieve this speed?
(1) The drive frequency was increased, and the piezoelectric actuator and flow path structure were redesigned.
(2) The nozzle shape was improved, and the linearity of the ejection was improved by improving the accuracy.
(3) The waterproof film material was adjusted. (The specific materials of the waterproof material have not been announced. But it is said that the ejection accuracy can be improved by changing the material.)

3. High-quality 600dpi grayscale printing

High-resolution multi-grayscale achieves high image quality. The high-density configuration of nozzles is achieved using unique ceramic technology. Taking advantage of the piezoelectric method, the variable control of ink droplet volume achieves high-quality printing with a maximum of 5 gray levels and a resolution of 600dpi×600dpi.

4. Excellent continuous printing stability

With built-in filters to remove foreign objects, and built-in heaters to correct the effects of ambient temperature changes. The unique flow path design ensures stable jetting of 2656 nozzles, reducing the phenomenon of non-jetting during continuous printing.

Kyocera KJ4A series printheads are suitable for UV-curable inks with relatively high viscosity. They are applicable to variable data additional printing, label printing, and fields with diverse requirements for media.

Kyocera KJ4B series printheads are suitable for water-based inks. With a speed of more than 100 million drops per second, they are widely used in advertising and commercial printing. Single-pass printing such as anti-counterfeiting printing using MICR ink is also perfectly applied to scanning printing such as digital printing.
